What is Impressionism?
Impressionism is the style of art in which artists paint an image as if a glimpse was just caught of it. The paintings were often of realistic scenes or of the outdoors.
When did it begin?
19th century, late 1800's in Paris, France
What was the method of art?
Artists painted outside and used the sun as their natural light. The colors were not blended or shaded, the colors of the painting were vibrant and bold. By painting directly on a blank canvas, overlapping only pure colors, without mixing them, impressionist artists achieved the effect of light and sensitivity.
